High School Students Participate in Hartford Art School's Pre-Collegiate Visual Arts Program

The Hartford Art School’s Pre-Collegiate Visual Arts Portfolio Workshop recently wrapped up its program, which ran from July 10 through Aug. 4 and was held at the University of Hartford.  The program offered high school students a unique educational experience, and opportunities to connect with other students and artists and ultimately create new artwork to build their portfolio.

Building a portfolio is a critical piece of the application process (and requirement) for students interested in pursuing a studio art major in college.  In addition to building and refining portfolio artwork, the HAS in-person program provided an educational experience that allows students to connect with each other, challenge themselves, think critically, and problem-solve over the summer break.  Classes included Observational Drawing, Photography, and Ceramics, which offered an array and diversity of mediums and techniques that students could integrate into their portfolios.

The program was also generously supported by HASE, Inc., an independent nonprofit corporation dedicated to promoting and assisting the Hartford Art School in its objective to provide excellence in visual arts education.
