Detailed Class Descriptions
3D Scanning & WorldBuilding
with JLS Gangwisch, Assistant Professor of 4D Foundations
Place yourself in a digital world! Attendees of this workshop will use a 3D scanner to capture a self-portrait, place that self-portrait in a digital world of their own making, and use a virtual camera to create a 2D print. Attendees will take home their original print, digital files of their 3D-scan, and a USB drive with the open-source software used to create their digital environment.
Pencil Portraiture (Drawing)
with Jeremiah Patterson, Professor of Foundation
In this workshop participants will concentrate on the fundamentals of portraits, working with a live model to learn basic pencil drawing strategies and techniques.
Impressionistic Portraits (Painting)
with Brandon Brownlee, Visiting Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing
In this class participants will be introduced to color theory and the use of color vibration and harmonies to create impressionistic self-portraits.
Wheel Throwing (Ceramics)
with Matt Towers, Professor of Ceramics
Find your center and learn the basics of the pottery wheel: attendees will throw and underglaze their own stoneware vessel.

Drawing with Light (Photography)
with Ellen Carey, Associate Professor of Photography
Become the camera and create black and white photograms. Participants will explore a brief history of photography through books and photogram examples, before going into the darkroom to create their own camera-less photographs.

The Wonder of Watercolor (Illustration)

Paint a fall inspired collection of pumpkins, gourds and leaves as you discover some basic techniques to add to your watercolor painting skillset.
Monotype Magic (Printmaking)
with Kasey Ramirez, Assistant Professor of Printmaking
Come to the printshop and play with layering colors, marks, and textures in this improvisational printmaking process. Participants will create one-of-a-kind prints using translucent inks, stencils, additive and subtractive methods on the user-friendly Vandercook press.
